Live/work lofts, Oakland, CA
This project consisted of the conversion of a beautiful, but dilapidated 36,000 square feet brick industrial building to artist's work spaces. The building circulation is organized around a central gallery for display of the tenants' work, located beneath the existing saw-tooth skylight. The conversion from industrial to artist's use was limited to interior work and the historic exterior fabric was left intact. At the rear of the site was constructed a new twelve unit live/work building with double-height spaces, sleeping lofts and large-north facing windows.
